Good farm, Andres estate
Another very nice evening with the great offer from Gutshof Andres. Attentive and friendly service, excellent dishes and a drinks menu of the finest quality. Bottled wines are calculated with a 100% surcharge, something you only see in Italy.

Light and shadow
The plan looked perfect: half a week in one of the attractively described holiday apartments in the Andres estate for two - sporting activities during the day on the waters around Sand and Zeil am Main - and in the evening enjoying the renowned cuisine of the slow food restaurant. One of the days was my husband's very "round" birthday, which we wanted to celebrate with a sophisticated dinner for two. That was how it was planned and that was how it was communicated to the hosts with a request for a suggestion for the birthday dinner. I should have been alerted by the somewhat brusque answer that a menu would be offered every evening.
The arrival and the ambience in the nature around the estate was promising. The holiday apartment in an old coach house "above the courtyard" was beautifully equipped with everything two people need.
The dinner on the first day was promising: a perfectly baked char after eggs Benedict for starters and a salad and chanterelle ragout for me. Slight doubts arose about the origin of the hollandaise sauce: the one on the egg was very similar in taste, texture and color to the one in the mushroom ragout. Had the two of them ever seen the inside of a quadro pack?! We don't know, but we came up with the same idea independently of each other.
The next evening, the announced birthday dinner. The service - including the boss - simply didn't have it on our radar. As a "just the two of us" party, we were escorted out of the beautiful winter garden into a small farmhouse parlor and when I asked, we were told that everyone would have to change. Aha!
The noise from the conversation at another table made our conversation a little difficult. But my desire for a large meal had now been dampened. Also because I find two meat courses (ox pockets, venison saddle) one after the other in a 5-course meal in the evening a little voluminous.
My husband opted for the Schäufele - if you're in Upper Franconia, it had to be - and found it impeccable. I took the pork cordon bleu, mainly because I was curious to see how a slow food chef makes good fried potatoes. Which is not easy, as every amateur cook knows. What I got looked like boiled potatoes tossed in a dripping pan and tasted like nothing! I can do it better myself. The cordon bleu didn't deserve a blue ribbon either. The coating was more like dough than fresh breading, there was no tasty ham to be found, the cheese was far from the Gruyère or Emmental that one would have hoped to find.
We left it at that with more tasting and retreated to the - as I said - impeccable holiday apartment. Where the next evening we had very tasty sushi and Japanese starters. Because Bamberg is not far away...
Our impression: guests are divided into categories. At the top are menu guests who are guaranteed the full attention of the chefs. We suspect that the dishes on the daily menu are spiced up with ingredients that are not always completely homemade or freshly cooked. This is understandable from a business perspective, but should be considered as a possibility - or should I say risk? - when looking at the menu.

We would love to come back!
We booked the "shore excursion" package with a 3-course menu over Pentecost. Perfect! The food is excellent, the presentation is very fine and the service staff are very attentive and incredibly friendly.
The "Lamelle" double room is modern and very clean.
We will definitely be back! Thank you very much for the very nice stay at Gutshof Andres!

Best stopover
I now like to stop overnight on the journey from northern Germany to Munich / the Alpine foothills. Bamberg was a good stopover in terms of the distance. While looking for a good restaurant, we came across Gutshof Andres. So: a super tasty dinner in Bavarian style (without being too heavy) - as well as a very nice wine list (and of course delicious beer). The overnight stay in the coach house was perfect - heavenly peace and very nice, well thought-out interior.
I think we will stop here more often (especially because of the food)

Again and again
This was one of the best, nicest and most beautiful hotels/restaurants ever, bravo! A rustic atmosphere in the restaurant, very tasty food, super friendly service and a fine selection of beers, schnapps and wines. The rooms were top-notch, covered veranda, cozy down beds - we will come back!!!!
