Beautifully appointed rooms with caring details
The rooms are well appointed, and the owners generously provided what people might need in the kitchen, bath, living room, and bedroom. Even free cookies!
What impressed us the most were the details. Beautiful curtains, flower arrangements, real wall art, fans, heaters, dual-control electric blankets, and fun pillows for the couch. All of this makes the rooms feel like home. And everything was exceptionally clean. Having stayed in 14 different hotels in New Zealand over the last month, Motel Six stands out! Just book it if you are staying in Whangarei.

My sister and I had booked a two bedroom which was actually a one bedroom with a bed in the lounge and a seperate bedroom. It had a nice big TV with SkyTV channels.
I was a bit skeptical on arrival as the hotel is on a busy road squashed between an office type building, McDonalds and a school. It looked neat and tidy with just a driveway with parking on the side and in front of the units. Would be better to get a room towards the back of the property to avoid road noise. An older type of hotel but very clean. The beds were very comfortable with clean fresh bedding. There were a few decorations too many for my taste ( plastic flowers, lacy doilys, toilet mat etc) It would be good to have some art work more in keeping with the 50's - 60's syle fittings but that is just a visual thing. The curtains could be rehung as a few hooks had come undone.

Affordable motel in a good location
Great location close to dairy, different eateries and the supermarket.
Close walk to the city.
Comfortable bed
Good water pressure in showers
Sky TV
Room was equipped with everything needed for my stay including toothbrushes.
Motel staff are amazing and friendly.
Cons:
Motel is quite dated.
Outside of motel needs a big clean up. Broken washing machines and rubbish laying around.
Ants coming into the room. Appeared to be coming through the sliding doors.
Overall:
Had a comfortable and relaxing stay. I would stay here again. It won’t be my first choice but it’s an affordable option if you’re on a budget.
