GREAT BARGAIN

I was lucky to find that place. I was scare by some comments but it seems that there is a new management and the hostal is all new. Super cheap, clean and super well located. A great place to stay and discover Bracelona. And the managers are so cool :-)

Very poor place to stay!!

Good things: excellent Wi-Fi signal, excellent location, good shower pressure. Bad things: room smelled like cigarettes and humidity. Nobody cleans the room and takes out the garbage during the stay. Nobody in the reception (they are only present for a few hours in the afternoon). No TV. Very old windows and since this is located in a very busy street there's a lot of noise, even in the night, which makes sleeping very hard. All the pipes are showing. The bathroom has a pump which is very noisy and works whenever you open the water.
In conclusion: Don't stay here. I know It's cheap, but I stayed in other cheap places across Europe but I have never found a spot where they only clean when you check out! Also they try to make you pay upfront. Just wondering if that's why the service was so poor??

Perfect spot for a city break

We had 2 and a half days to see as much of Barcelona as possible on a tight budget. This hotel was ideal. Yes the room was small. But it was very clean, we had our own bathroom and the bed was comfortable. We were greeted by Dima who provided us with a city map and some advice about getting around. We were just a 5 minute walk from la rambla or the gothic quarter and there was a metro station nearby.

Great budget apartments very centrally located

Located just a 5 minute walk from Placa de Catalunya are the Estudios Pelayo (Note: NOT the Hotel Pelayo which is three doors down the same road!). The reception is on the 2nd floor and the rooms are on this floor and the floor above. There is a lift thankfully! The rooms are quite small but quite sufficient for a short stay. I had a twin room which had one double and one single bed. The en-suite bathroom was a good size and had a shower, sink and toilet. You are provided with towels when you are shown to your room. The bathroom also has hand soap so you will need to take or buy your own shampoo and shower gel. There is a late night mini supermarket just to the left of the entrance which is handy. Have the phone number handy because if no one is in when you arrive you will need to call them. There is usually someone close by. Their no. is 650093992, with the code for Spain (34) in front if you need it. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There is Wifi but on the third floor we found it very weak and it kept dropping so it was not very reliable. The Costa Coffee next door also has free Wifi and you can still pick that up from the apartments but you would need to buy a drink from them first as there is a 4 digit code you need to enter to use their Wifi so I assume they will give you the code when you buy something from them!
Our room was at the front of the apartments and had a private balcony overlooking the main road Calle Pelai but the windows and balcony doors did not seal shut very well and they were not double glazed, so a lot of noise from the street outside came through into the room at night so it would help if you are very tired or a heavy sleeper!

Excellent value for the low price we paid

We stayed for a week in the room with bunk beds. Very small room, with basic furniture and a little window facing the inner courtyard. The room and the bathroom were clean and towels were changed almost everyday. Wifi was free and worked with surprisingly good speed. The staff we encountered on check-in did not speak english but we understood eachother just fine. What is brilliant about this hostel is the excellent location, just a few steps away from Catalunya Square and Las Ramblas. So it was perfect for us traveling with a tight budget to stay in the heart of the city.
