Super chill place great prices And relaxin
We had a great time we have stayed in. A few places on the isla and we are this one to the list th food was great the staff was amazing and great prices ..yes the rooms basic but it out on beach and enjoying your self with site seeing see more reviews jbdegustador

Gross
Gross. No running water. Feels basic. Owner is rude and threatens employees. No locks. On doors. Dirty…. Not basic… dirty. Gives Central America a bad rap. Employees are amazingly kind. Owner is awful. Beautiful island tainted by greed…..

Warning - not hot water and no running water at times
The workers were great but the hotel got worse after a couple of days. There was no running hot water during our whole stay but the worse thing was at times we had no water at all. I was sick one night with severe diarrhea and could not flush the toilet or wash my hands; this incident made up leave two days early. We complained to booking.com and they said we had to get our money back from the hotel. The hotel told us we left early due to bad weather. That was a joke. We met 3 other couples there and they left early too.
Another strange thing the coffee mugs tasted like salt? For some reason we all had stomach issues during our stay.

Awesome staff. Beautiful island. Run down hotel.
We are very happy we went and we enjoyed our time on Isla Grande.
However, it's not all sunshine and pina coladas at Hotel Cocotal. Businesses profit by exploiting the environment, employees, and/or the consumer, or a combination thereof. Businesses should be able to profit but not by unethical or unlawful means. It appears that the owner of Hotel Cocotal mostly gets ahead by taking advantage of his staff. We witnessed staff working from open at 730 AM until close which happens anywhere from 10 PM to 2 AM. That is a ridiculously long day. We had hoped to talk to the owner about what we were observing but he left during the last few days of our stay there. We can only imagine what other abuses the staff endure. We understand that low and withheld pay is a normal practice by the owner. With regard to exploiting the consumer, the hotel rooms were not in great repair which we feel was unjustly blamed on the staff. Profits need to be reinvested in maintenance and it was evident this was not happening in some cases. For example, the lock on our door was about to fall out. Some reviewers commented on the service, but it is important to take into account the culture and work conditions of the hotel, island and country as a whole. We are very grateful to have gotten to experience Isla Grande, the staff and location of Hotel Cocotal and hope conditions improve there. Despite these negative observations we would stay there again.
On a side note, we saw more marine life in their swimming area than anywhere else around the island!

DISGUSTING!
DO NOT STAY HERE!!!
I've been to a LOT of places. Some great, some not-so-great. This was SO far down on the "absolutely never book here again" list. We had to wait until 4:30 to get our room. once in the room, as soon as we opened the door we were shocked. The whole room was tiled. The floor was extremely wet with mud tracks, there were only two twin beds, no towels, the bedsheets had wet dirt on them and the pillow cases were so stained they looked almost entirely yellow. Our view?? It was overlooking an extremely poor and trash-ridden neighborhood. We didn't dare touch anything never mind put our heads down.
We immediately told him we were NOT going to stay here because it was completely mis-represented and disgusting. We are STILL trying to get our money back even though we never stayed there.
We wound up grabbing our bags, walking down the street and found a pristine new hotel that even wound up being less money. Amazing room, fantastic customer service, beautiful pool, breakfast etc. Candy Rose Hotel deserves a metal for saving our vacation.
