A mixed feeling
The positives: Zeid was very flexible to create a tailor-made program for me that met my expectations, each time combining morning hiking and classic drive-in sites in the afternoon. He agreed to set a departure as early as 8am on the day of the ascent of Burdah Arch, while most agencies do not start until 9am, which is late in October.
The camp is classic, like most other camps in Wadi Rum. It is well located in the heart of the reserve.
The negatives: to add a little "waah" touch for my wife and children, I had paid a little more to book the first night in 2 luxury bubble tents, outside of "Muhammed Mutlak Tours". Zeid managed to convince me to cancel this booking and have the same experience with his partner (mentioned on their website), explaining to me in particular that the 2 or 3 camps I had found were not on the reserve. He also promised me that we would have for this unique experience a front line tent with infinite views of the desert.
Result:
Partner camp is the ugliest camp we've seen in the desert. It is a hyper tourist camp, on the edge of desert, with (surprise!) arrival of a tourist bus (yes, a real bus since being located on the edge of desert, it is very accessible without 4x4), the camp is surrounded by high gates that spoil the whole view...and we were not at all front line as promised...but had seen...the tent in front of us only. All this by having paid more than the camps I had spotted.
Frustration: I notice during our walks the next day that the camps I had spotted are indeed in the reserve and as beautiful and wild as I had hoped...
Another negative point: the guide was not at all aware of the tailor-made program I had planned with Zeid. I had to explain to him well (not easy because the guides hardly speak English), otherwise we would come back to the classic route.
In short, it gave me the impression that Zeid is a very good seller who uses chatgpt well to make promises that make you dream but without really tracking behind. I am especially disappointed to have been abused for the night in bubble tents which was to be a unique experience, while I was still booking a beautiful package of 2 days for 5 people at his place. So I would have expected more honesty.
Otherwise, if you stay on classic routes, you don’t take a lot of risks, you’ll be happy with the services (but most tours offer the same at the same price).
If you are not afraid of difficult trails, I strongly recommend the Burdah Arch (exceptional!). I was disappointed with the hike Al Hash (without breaks, it is completed in 1 hour).
