Has potential but sadly lots of little things let it down
We booked through Airbnb. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to put my review on the Airbnb app though due to lack of time.
We booked for 8 people, all adults aged 18 to 56. There was plenty of room but only bed space for 7.
Our stay had many good points, however there were also a lot of not so good points.
We really enjoyed our time in Agia marina and the villa was very well located near the beach and restaurants. It’s large enough for a big family or group of friends and Overall it was fairly clean, although it had some tatty worn out bits in areas. Unfortunately there were quite a lot of negatives which I’ll list below. Each on there own isn’t too bad but all of them combined together became quite annoying.
Our issues were:
- we were greeted by a lovely man across the road but he was just helping out. He’d never been in the villa and was just doing the owner a favour. Which leads to point 2-
- with Airbnb you expect great communication from the owner. All our communication was through a larger company called Posarelli Villas and it wasn’t in a timely manner. It was many hours later that we got a reply and then it was to say that someone would get in touch with the owner. It wasn’t really good enough for a holiday let.
- there wasn’t a light bulb in basement bathroom. It had no windows so this was a problem. We had to use our phone lights to use the bathroom. We did report this on several occasions and someone looked at it but nothing was done.
- the Dimmer Light in basement didn’t turn off so was on for the duration of our stay.
- the basement bedroom light didn’t work.
- the Oven didn’t stop buzzing. This was reported, nothing was done.
- Oven pulls out when opening it. Dangerous.
- No instructions on bins or where to put rubbish etc were left.
- we booked for eight people but there were only 7 places to sleep. This was reported and a broken camp bed was set up. The cleaner told us we could have it free of charge but I’d already paid for it. We also had to lug it up the stairs to the single room as it was put in the basement by the lovely man across the road because the cleaner was tired. I hope he was getting paid.
- No dustpan and brush were provided just a very old worn out broom which wasn’t sufficient to clean up sand and debris.
- No basic cleaning materials. Only washing up liquid and a few dishwasher tablets. Most Airbnbs provide more than this.
- there were No instructions or welcome pack on how to use appliances, the dishwasher only works on one mode which is tricky to find. A full size dishwasher would be preferable for 8 people.
- Limited kitchen utensils eg sharp knives salad bowls etc. and only 3 full size mugs for 8 people.
- the bath in the main bedroom had mould all through the grout.
- the Wifi password was incorrect. The one the cleaner gave also didn’t work. I tried different things to guess what it was and finally figured it out. I have written it down for the next people.
- the air conditioner unit in one bedroom was dripping a lot and then dropping chunks of ice. This did get repaired but made a wet mess for me to clean up on my holiday.
- one morning at 10 a lady came to the door with a workman. She didn’t introduce herself she barged in and went upstairs without saying why and the man went in and started sawing open the safe. Which didn’t work. My daughter and her boyfriend were just getting up and ready for the day. They had to leave in what they had on.
- Generally the villa is a bit tatty decor wise. Peeling wallpaper and marks on the walls. Where wall paper has been damaged it has been cellotaped back to the wall.
- A couple of the dining room chairs are filthy. There’s food stuck to them. They need a good clean.
- the Kettle won’t switch off and is dangerous. My adult Daughter burnt herself on it.
- I had to reset the fuse when the roof top lights stopped working.
- the clothes pegs were old and broken from being left in the sun. Most crumbled on use.
- No recycling instructions.
- Continually people were coming in and out doing jobs that should’ve been done before we arrived.
- on the last day all the water pressure went with some showers having no water coming out at all.
- although there were 4 showers only one could be used at a time.
- we Turned the tv on and porn came on. You might want to clear the history before the next guest. Unfortunately it was my youngest daughter who saw this.
We’ve stayed in other Airbnbs and booking.com properties over he last few years and for the money there are far too many things wrong with this accommodation. For €3000 plus for a week we would expect the place to be spotless, everything to work and communication to be much much better.
Agia Marina is a good seaside town for families with older children. There’s lots of places to eat and it’s a good base to see the west of the island. The villas could be great but do need maintenance and a spruce up if they are to be sold for the price they’re at. Over £300 a night. There are lots of other hotels and apartments in the town which are cheaper and just as good if not better.

Villa ok, service level not ok
We felt the maintenance of the house left a lot to be desired. We had a faulty very noisy device outside next to the roof terrace, which made a lot of noise and kept us awake. They weren't able to fix it - my husband ended up fixing it himself by shutting down the fuse that supplied its electricity after a week of waking up every 3 minutes to the noise. The lights by the pool were not working, this was partially fixed (the lights IN the pool never worked).
Villa Miami had NO internet - this was not fixed nor compensated for. We had to use the neighbouring villa's internet which is not ideal, obviously, with too many people using it. The kitchen was very sparsely equipped, with not enough silverware or glasses, bowls etc. We were given a few extra glasses by the cleaining lady, but decided against cooking full meals because of the lack of utensils.
We were in frequent communication with the office, but most issues were not solved. In the end a lady came by to collect the money, who then reacted surprised and said she was not aware of any of our complaints, so not sure how the management of the villas is actually organised. All in all: house ok / fine, but service level not up to speed with the high price.
