Magical adventure for entire family

Our recent family holiday to the Northern Lights Village in Levi was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, the kindness and friendliness of the staff stood out. Every person we interacted with genuinely cared about our experience, ensuring that each moment was as perfect as it could be. This human touch added a special warmth to the wintery charm of Lapland.
One of the highlights of our trip was the opportunity to try new activities, such as cross-country skiing. Admittedly, some of us were apprehensive at first, but the instructor was exceptionally accommodating. With a thoughtful approach, she managed our varying abilities with encouragement and patience, ensuring everyone left the session feeling successful. It’s been over 25 years since I tried cross-country skiing and I have to admit, this opportunity rekindled my interest in this sport. My son however soon learned he loved driving the kids snow mobiles best. :-) The smile and independence he exhibited were wonderful to see!
The husky sled driving was an exhilarating experience that captivated every one of us. My 7-year old son was disappointed he’s not big enough to drive yet and made us promise we would come back when he can. He did love how fast we were able to run with the dogs! My 70-year-old father described it as the best experience of the trip, filled with excitement and the stunning beauty of Levi's landscapes speeding by. The initial fear of not quite knowing what you’re doing quickly evaporated with the thrill of “steering” the huskies through the snowy landscape. (Let’s be honest, the huskies knew what they were doing much more than we did). And then we were lucky enough to see the new puppies as well! So cute and mischievous. It was lovely to hear how the team here care for their animals.
It has been a lifelong dream of my mother's to witness the Northern Lights, but we all knew it wasn’t guaranteed that we would see them while we were here. Although we weren’t fortunate enough to see them during our designated excursion, our guide, Elektra, made sure our experience was delightful. The warm sleigh ride was comfortable and full of joy, especially as Elektra infused fun into every stop, engaging our son in snowball fights and races in the 3 foot high snow drifts. The evening was topped off with Finnish stories around a campfire, drinking blueberry juice in kuksa cups. We were then graced by Mother Nature the next 3 nights, seeing the Aurora Borealis dance across the sky from our warm bed beneath the stunning NLV bedroom windows.
Visiting the reindeer was another enchanting part of our trip. The staff there were incredibly knowledgeable and conveyed fascinating insights about these majestic creatures. Meeting Santa in such an authentic setting was magical, not merely for our son, but for each of us. The elves are full of fun and the attention to personal details is seen throughout. (Special shout out to the local elf from Finland and the elf who travelled all the way from South Africa, showing us how Santa’s helpers truly are all international, like we all are ) There’s a lot of expectations around meeting “the big man in red” and they were all met. I can't recommend this experience enough to any families who are considering it.
Before our trip, I was concerned about whether the picky eaters in our family would eat well in Finland, but I shouldn’t have worried. The food is clearly labelled for those with dietary restrictions, plenty on offer for vegetarians and gluten free. The fresh fish was AMAZING! I strongly recommend trying the reindeer soup! (Just maybe not on the same day as you’ve enjoyed the reindeer safari) Here too we found that the staff were so helpful. Michel always ensured that my son could find food he would eat (the chicken nuggets were an unexpected benefit) and he helped my son surprise his grandfather with a birthday cake and rousing rendition of Happy Birthday. João always welcomed us with a smile and kind conversation, making us feel like friends from our first day. Always willing to go the extra mile and help us with anything we needed – especially with my father who always enjoys trying the local beer. Thank you both for making our family feel so comfortable, like we were long-lost friends.
Our stay at the Northern Lights Village was the perfect blend of adventure, relaxation, and enchantment. It’s a destination I would recommend to anyone looking to step into a winter wonderland where every detail is curated with thoughtfulness. And don't underestimate the fun you can have, as an individual, a couple or family just playing in the snow! Truly, this was an experience that will be cherished in our family memories for many years to come.

It was an experience out of the world during our stay here. We arrived early wanting to drop our bags but they allowed us to check in early anyway as our room was ready.
The cabin itself was clean and spacious enough for 2 people. The bathroom floor was heated which was nice. We got to even see the northern lights from our bed even though it only lasted for less than a minute. One thing to note is cabins are located quite near to one another and with the glass panels, you don't get total privacy. Make sure to request for a cabin off the stretch of main road to have more privacy.
We had breakfast and dinner here. Options were quite limited but understandable given the location. All dishes were labelled clearly, and we had no issues as vegetarians. We even saw some neighbourhood squirrels enjoying their breakfast.
The place is very modern and managed commercially as a business, with everything extra requiring extra charges (you may even pay for staff to pick up your bags from your cabin to the main reception, which is a 2-5 min walk affair).
Despite this, we think it's still worth trying out for a night to have something that's different.

Beautiful Setting but Poorly Managed – Not Worth the Price

We had a mixed stay at the resort. While the nature and some activities were beautiful, many aspects were poorly managed, especially considering the high price.
The arrival was stressful — the driver was unfriendly, and one of the car doors flew open while driving at 100 km/h. He had to stop twice, and eventually one of us had to hold the door shut. Transfers in -20°C were done in old, unheated cars, which felt unsafe and uncomfortable.
We booked several activities. The snowmobile tour was thrilling but felt unsafe — the young guide drove way too fast, seemed more focused on his own fun, and didn’t look after the group properly. One person even ended up in the trees, and his reaction was far too casual.
Aurora hunting with the heated sleigh was boring — no auroras, no guidance, just driving around in heavy snow. Thankfully, one guide stepped in, explained things well, and really saved that tour. He also took us the next night in a van, and although it was cloudy, he made the effort to drive further — and we saw the Northern Lights! He even helped us take great photos.
The husky safari was the best part — beautiful dogs, kind guides, and a great setup.
The cabin was cozy, and the surrounding area was lovely, but the resort needs to seriously improve staff training, guest safety, and overall organization. Some guides looked lost, others were just listening to music or shouting around. Only one or two staff members seemed professional. Overall, it was an okay holiday, but very poor value for the money paid.

Search for Santa

We did the Snowmobiles and Search for Santa experience at NLV Levi. The snowmobiles were great fun and thoroughly enjoyable. The instructor gave full and comprehensive instructions on how to get going and was friendly and approachable.
The search for Santa experience was exceptional and all elements of this have been carefully thought out and well designed. We were very lucky as we went between Christmas and New Year and the experience was very quiet. I can see how it could feel like a conveyor belt in busier times though.
The ‘elves’ were always in character and were great fun, especially those in the gingerbread cabin and where you have hot chocolate, they were particularly hilarious. Santa himself was great and remembered a great deal of information about my children and our family. The kids were in awe! He’s obviously a younger gentleman (given his excellent memory and voice) but the outfit is fabulous and you really couldn’t see his face or age him. We really enjoyed this experience and it’s given our family some treasured memories. I highly recommend. Enjoy the elf showers! A lovely experience for young and young-at-heart alike.

Dreamlike short break

The Northern Lights Village is very, very nice! We had one of the panoramic log cabins with fireplace and sauna. Very cozy, super clean.
The food offer at both breakfast and dinner was great.
The staff were very nice and friendly throughout.
The activities we had booked were great - dog sled safari, snowsled safari, snowshoe hike and reindeer sled safari. However, we had here on insane luck with the weather. It was bright sunshine or clear skies at night.
This has led to us seeing Northern Lights every night, which was fantastic!!! To be mentioned here: The very reliable alarm that the hotel triggers as soon as something is visible.
We did not like the snowmobile Safari with the caravan trailer. Very, very uncomfortable, was already problematic to get in there at all. After 5 minutes all the panes closed - heat inside and cold outside is not a good combination. Despite all the efforts the guides have otherwise made: That was nothing!!!
All in all, however, an unforgettable stay, we gladly recommend the hotel.
