We really like this place

We came in to Cuenca on January 1, 2020 in rainy evening.
Hotel we made a booking with (I don't want to call it's name) didn't find our reservation in spite of lot's of print out confirmation papers and emails. They offered us a very small and tiny room on 4th floor with no elevator.
So we decided to find another place. Just around the corner we found Hotel Cordero with amazing and thoughtful Ismenita on reception desk. Bingo!
She gave us nice large room with outside view with 2 double beds on second floor with elevator.
Two other guys we met in this place and lady from restaurant were also nice people.
Thank you, guys. You made our stay in Cuenco comfortable and pleasurable.

Awesome Receptionist

We didn't stay here so I can't vouch for the rooms. Our taxi driver dropped us here by mistake and was gone before we noticed we were at the wrong hotel. We walked in to the front desk and told the receptionist what happened. She looked at our paper work told us to hold on she would help us. She got on the phone got directions to our hotel called us a taxi and even went out to the taxi and told the driver in Spanish where we needed to go. If we come back to Cuenca I would stay here just because she was so helpful.I don't know her name but THANKS SO MUCH Recption lady!

Great location, large room

There is no better location in Cuenca: a walk of 1.5 blocks to the central square with the cathedrals, and en route you pass the historic city hall and another giant of a church, the Iglesia de San Alfonso. Or head down to the river during the day or the bars and clubs at night, all within a 10-minute stroll. The hotel itself is a little strange; to get to my room I had to take the elevator to the fourth floor then pass through the restaurant to a staircase, at the top of which were three bedrooms. It was worth the effort though: the room was huge, with a king bed and a wall of windows through which I had a magnificent view of the full length of the San Alfonso church and the rooftops of Cuenca's downtown. Breakfast was the only disappointment. There was no buffet either day I was there, and no menu either; a server came and asked how I would like my eggs; that was more or less it. I asked for a tortilla (omelette) with ham and it came freshly cooked but small, together with a basket of just 2 bread items and a glass of juice and coffee. Only by chance on the second day - after I had already eaten the omelette - did the server arrive with a side plate of fresh banana and other fruit pieces and asked if would like it. I gratefully accepted and wished I'd known from the start that fresh fruit was available, but it had never been mentioned. Overall, though, a good experience at a reasonably priced hotel right in the heart of Cuenca's centro histórico.
